Newberg School District is pleased to announce that Dr. Dana Christie has been named the Director of Special Programs

Dana comes to the district with an impressive educational background. Throughout her 17-year career, she has served in various roles, including Educational Assistant, Licensed Special Education teacher, Special Education Coach and Mentor, and Special Education Coordinator. For the past six years, Dana has served as the Director of Student Services at Woodburn School District.

 

A lifelong Oregonian, Dana’s family and community values led to her career path in education. Dana obtained her Bachelors of Social and Behavior Studies at George Fox University and her Masters of Special Education at Portland State University. She returned to her alma mater, George Fox University, to earn her Doctorate of Educational Leadership. 

 

Dana is passionate about her work. At Newberg School District, her focus will include advocating for access to educational opportunities and creating systems so that all students have the resources necessary to succeed. Her goal is to foster inclusive and dynamic programs that will make a meaningful impact in the Newberg community. 

 

Expressing excitement in transitioning to Newberg, Dana shared “I am honored to step into the role of Director of Special Programs for the Newberg School District. Every child deserves access to high-quality learning experiences, and I am committed to working alongside a dedicated team to expand and enhance programs that provide critical support for all students.”

At a time when Newberg is focused on evolving and improving its programs, Dana’s experience, collaborative approach, and proven track record will be invaluable in helping us move forward. We are excited for the expertise and leadership she brings and look forward to the positive impact she will have on our students, staff, and community.”

 

When not at work, Dana enjoys spending time with her husband, children and new grandbaby. Together, they enjoy many outdoor activities such as hiking and skiing. Dana also loves to spend time in the garden and cooking for family and friends.
