For two decades, Newberg-Dundee Public Schools held an annual awards ceremony for staff called the Crystal Apple Awards, but the event ended in 2020. However, the tradition will return this year on May 28!
Schools held smaller ceremonies in the past three years to honor their teams, and the School District continued to show its appreciation for staff with annual gifts such as Years of Service pins for those who have worked at the School District for at least five years.
However, after the Communications Team asked our Newberg-Dundee families, students, staff, and community members what we could do to bring people together and inspire joy, the answer we heard most often was to hold a staff recognition event. Some specifically asked about awards or the Crystal Apple Awards Ceremony itself.
So we brought it back! It will be our first year and we are still learning, so we know that our event may look a little different than it has in the past. However, the basics will remain the same: We will pay our respects to those we have lost this year and recognize our retirees and Crystal Apple Award winners. This year, we will have two winners: one Classified and one Licensed. The key criterion for winning a Crystal Apple Award was demonstrating a deep devotion to students. To find our winners, we requested nominations from all of the staff, and we received nearly 60 of them. A committee of Classified and Licensed staff, parents, building administrators, and District Office leaders chose the two winners.
Our entire staff is invited to cheer on our two winners (to be announced) and our retirees.
