Ben Patterson, Assistant Principal at Newberg High School

 

“I’m just really happy to be at Newberg High School and in the Newberg community and hope to be here for a long time.”

 

A few of your main daily tasks: 

  • Oversees the world language program
  • Manages the Career and Technical Education program
  • Handle attendance and discipline in tandem with Student Support Advocate Neil Russo

 

One long-term project: 

  • We’re always looking to raise our graduation rate and close the achievement gaps between our Latino students and our white students.

 

Your main goal: 

  • We are continuing to grow our CTE program.

 

Experience: 

  • Second year as the Assistant Principal at NHS
  • 27th year in public education at the high school level, spending nine years working in Missouri as a classroom teacher and coach and 17 years at McMinnville High School in roles including a classroom teacher, Athletic Director, and the Dean of Students

 

Education: 

  • Bachelor of Arts in English, Harding University in Arkansas
  • Master of Arts in Education, University of Phoenix
  • Administrator’s License, George Fox University

 

Skills/Hobbies: 

I follow Michigan and Detroit sports. I still like to participate in sports recreationally, such as baseball, basketball, tennis, pickleball, and ping pong.

Family:

I am married to my wife of 25 years, Randie (an NHS grad), and we have two children: Elyse, 21, a junior at Harding University, and Luke, 19, a freshman at Oklahoma Christian University.
