Make-up Days for Snow Days

Dear Students, Staff, Parents, and Community Members,

We apologize for the inconvenience that canceling school may have caused during the snow and ice storms from Jan. 16 to 18. We value each day that we get to teach your children. However, we have a plan to recover some lost time.

The Newberg-Dundee School District’s labor contracts state the following: “the superintendent and/or designee will collaborate with union leadership on how to make up those days.

With that in mind, and after working with both the NEA and OSEA union presidents, we plan to use the time off that was previously allocated for Parent-Teacher Conferences:

  • Feb. 1 was scheduled to be a half-day for students and a half-day for Parent-Teacher Conferences. FEB. 1 IS NOW A FULL DAY OF SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS.
  • Feb. 2 was scheduled to be a full day off from school for students to accommodate Parent-Teacher Conferences. FEB. 2 IS NOW A FULL DAY OF SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS.

In addition, teachers and principals throughout the district will work together to accommodate any family who would like a conference. The conference times will be arranged between the teacher and the family; most conferences will take place after school in February.

Respectfully,

Stephen W. Phillips, PhD Andrew Gallagher Jennnifer Esmond

Superintendent NEA President OSEA President
