Spotlight: Mary Jo Miller

Congratulations to Mary Jo Miller! Spotlight is a weekly honor for employees for which a colleague's nomination is required.

Shortly before she passed away, one of the last things that Lydia Schramm did was to nominate Mary Jo Miller, Title 1 Reading Specialist at Edwards Elementary School, as the next Spotlight. Schramm wrote: "Mary Jo Miller (AKA Queen Miller) has been a beacon of joy at Edwards for as long as she has worked here for students, and staff alike. When it comes to teaching reading strategies and skills to our students, Mary Jo gets the work done in creative and fun ways for the students. From walking the halls playing sound or word games, to the students making and performing scripts, to scavenger hunts she creates, Queen Miller has poured her heart into teaching students how to read in a joyful way. Mary Jo puts no less energy into the team structure at Edwards Elementary. As the creator of social times such as TuTu Tuesday, organizing and encouraging outside gatherings, and her unforgettable performance each year during our Holiday Sing-A-Long, Mary Jo has demonstrated to all of us how much more joyful education is when we work as a team that cares about each other."
