Update: Sad News

We received information that Lydia Schramm, an Educational Assistant (EA) and Speech-Language Pathology Assistant, passed away from a recent illness.

Lydia, a trained Speech and Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA), was an EA at Edwards from September 2012 to June 2022. School staff say that she was a hard-working, dedicated Edwards Eagle since the day she was hired and also diligently supported the Mabel Rush community as an SLPA for the past year. She was always thinking of others, recently nominating a co-worker for our district’s Spotlight honor for staff.

This is heartbreaking news for our community, and Lydia will be deeply missed. We know this loss will affect our staff and students in different ways. Some may not be as affected, while others may experience a great deal of shock, sadness, anxiety, and anger. Feeling sad is a normal response to any loss. Any death, even if the person wasn’t known to you, can bring up feelings and emotions related to other losses.

We recommend that families check in with their children. If there is additional support needed, please reach out to your principal or school counselors. To support our community, we have the District Crisis Response Team, which will assist our staff, students, and, most importantly, the Schramm family during this difficult time.

Our school counselors and the District Crisis Response Team, a group of specially trained counselors and mental health specialists, will be there to help Edwards and Mabel Rush students on Thursday. Students need to know that our schools are there for them, so please do not hesitate to reach out to your building principal. We are also providing grief support resources.

We will provide follow-up information as it becomes available. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies go out to the Schramm/Rightmire family and to all who cared about Lydia Schramm.
