What is Who's Who? This weekly feature highlights the leaders in our School District. We will share who we are and what we do, so our community can get to know us better.
Title: Principal, NHS
Your main daily tasks: Welcoming staff and students each day, creating and supporting an academic environment that promotes high expectations, being present and providing support for staff and students, and developing systems to address attendance and academics.
One long-term project: We have a rich and robust Career and Technical Education program, and we need to continue growing opportunities for students by:
- More clearly defining career pathway options for students,
- Developing marketing and advertising tools for our pathways to generate more student interest, and
- Increasing partnerships with local industry to create a school-to-career pipeline.
Your main goal: My main goal is always to serve our students academically, emotionally, and socially by providing rich academic experiences and supports to help students prepare for life beyond high school. Each student is unique, and it is our responsibility to prepare and help guide students toward a post-high school plan where they can pursue their interests and passions.
Experience: This is my 29th year in education and my 14th year as an administrator. I was a classroom teacher and career counselor for 9 years, school counselor for 5 years, and Dean of Students for 1 year. I have been in the School District for 6 years, all at NHS. In my first year, I was the Assistant Principal, and for the last 5, I have been the Principal.
Education:
- BA in Education, Minor in Speech Communication from Eastern Washington University
- MA in Teaching, Pacific University
- MS in School Counseling, George Fox University
- Initial Administrator License, George Fox University
- Continuing Administrator License, Lewis & Clark College
Family: My husband, Trevor, is the Principal Broker at Berkshire Hathaway in Newberg and McMinnville, and we have been married for 23 years. My son, Kyler, graduated from Newberg High School in 2020 and is a senior at the University of Oregon, pursuing a degree in Special Education. My daughter, MacKensi, graduated from Newberg High School in 2023 and is a freshman at Chemeketa Community College in the Pre-Dental Hygiene program.
