Who's Who? Profile: Brian Wood

What is Who's Who? This new weekly feature will highlight the leaders in our School District. We will share who we are and what we do, so our community can get to know us better.

Title: Principal for Crater Elementary School

Three of your main daily tasks:

  • Greeting and welcoming students and staff
  • Being present throughout the building and classrooms
  • Meeting every student where they are at to help them be their best self

One long-term project: I look forward to working with Crater staff, students, and community members to continue to help the school thrive both in the short and long term.

Your main goal: To create a welcoming school environment where all students can reach their full potential.

Experience: I have spent the past 19 years working in Newberg-Dundee Public Schools, previously serving as Principal of Ewing-Young and Principal of Chehalem Online Academy.

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and Exercise Science from Oregon State University
  • Master of Exercise and Sports Science, Physical Education and Teacher Education from Oregon State University

Skills: Outside of school, I enjoy coaching lacrosse and being outdoors. I love to fly fish, mountain bike, and work on construction projects around the farm.

Family: My wife, Michelle, is an occupational therapist working around the greater Newberg and Metro area.  Both of our children have gone through schools within the Newberg-Dundee School District, starting at Crater, moving through middle school at Chehalem Valley, and are currently at NHS. Our oldest son, Conor, is a senior and our youngest, Eli, is a sophomore.
