Who's Who? Profile: The School District Psychologist

What is Who's Who? This new weekly feature will highlight the leaders in our School District. We will share who we are and what we do, so our community can get to know us better.

Name: Jeri Turgesen (aka Dr. Jeri), PsyD, ABPP, MSCP

Title: Psychologist

Experience: This school year, Dr. Jeri started as a full-time School District Psychologist for K-12 after serving for seven years as a part-time volunteer psychologist for Newberg-Dundee high schoolers. She worked with Providence for 13 years, spending 10 years as a licensed provider and three years doing her practicum training, a hands-on learning period for doctors.

Three of her main daily tasks:

  1. Dr. Jeri is helping support building out mental health services for the School District, which means finding more opportunities, training, and resources for staff via George Fox University and Pacific University, the School District, and community partners and supporters. To plan and organize these opportunities, she is working within the School District with Tony Buckner, Director of Special Programs, and Amy Stephens, Behavioral Health and Special Education Coordinator. Dr. Jeri is also working with established community partners and supporters: the staff at Lutheran Community Services Northwest, Yamhill County Mental Health, and Providence.
  2. Dr. Jeri will be meeting with K-12 students and providing consultation and support with mental health issues. She works with the whole family to support their goals for their child’s mental health.
  3. Dr. Jeri will be available to consult with staff, sharing resources and guiding their understanding of mental health resources and learning opportunities.

Her main goal:  She wants to help ensure that all students feel seen and valued, and connect them with all the supports and resources that they need. This will help enable them to be ready to learn and achieve in the classroom.
