At a Thursday assembly, Catalyst Alternative High School staff recognized parent Lesley Woodruff for donating a quilt she made that was emblazoned with a fiery phoenix. Catalyst’s mascot, the phoenix, was chosen based on the Greek myth of the bird rising from its own ashes, renewed and ready to fly again. Woodruff said that she wanted to thank the staff for being an incredible resource for one of her two daughters, 11th-grader Lucy, lending her the support she needed to soar like a phoenix.
Catalyst staff also honored the following students during the assembly, which marked the end of the school’s first six-week cycle of the 2023-24 school year:
