Brittany Olson is this week’s Spotlight winner. She is also the recipient of the 2023 Oregon Science Teachers Association’s (OSTA) Outstanding Middle School Classroom Teacher Award for the Greater Oregon Region. The OSTA Outstanding Middle School Classroom Teacher Award honors her outstanding work motivating student achievement and excitement in science as described by her nominator, Teaching and Learning Coordinator Holly Miele.
Miele wrote: Brittany Olson has gone above and beyond for CVMS's science program this year. She is a phenomenal teacher who builds in student choice in projects, ready feedback for student growth, and excellent communication and extension options that she shares with families. While a fellow teacher was out with illness, and another science position was covered by a long-term substitute, Brittany prepped for all the science classes and graded the students while the other teachers were unable to do so. She has students excited to learn about science in all of those classes, and has been an incredible support to all of her colleagues. She definitely deserves to be nominated for this award.
The OSTA organizers agreed, and now she has won the award! Congratulations!
