Remembering When

Do you remember what it was like to be a senior? How about the way you felt on the first day of your senior year?

Those memories are careworn and faded for most of us. So we asked three Newberg High School seniors in Business Teacher Kaylee Tolley’s homeroom class what it was like on the first day of their final year, Wednesday, Sept. 6:

Cameron Kelly:

“To be honest, I don’t even feel like a senior. It’s gone by so fast. I try to get involved as much as possible because I might regret missing something. … I want to leave a legacy and have no regrets.”

Esther Muthiah:

“I’m mostly excited, and looking forward to the year, but just the thought of it being the last year — I’m just making the most of it. I won’t be in this season of my life again. A big part of it is social, knowing it’s my last year, so intentionally pursuing relationships. I know I may not see some teachers again for a long time or ever again.”

Trae Frederick:

“I’m pretty excited. I’m pretty happy about it. I’m happy to be here. I feel appreciation for it all because it’s my last year. … This is my last year to live it up. I’m going to enjoy every second, not be on my phone all the time, and try to … appreciate [school].”
