What's happening in your community?

  • Flyers: Every week, local groups send us flyers about their events: Complete the e-Friday folder form to submit a flyer. There's an option to upload a pdf. To view e-Friday flyers, please visit this temporary folder during the website transition. Flyer submissions must be received by noon on Wednesday from parent groups and staff to be placed in the following Friday’s newsletter.
  • Food Pantry: The Edwards Food Pantry needs your support! Contact the parent group on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/EdwardsVolunteerOrganization or email them [email protected].
  • Newsberg: Newsberg, a free news site, launched in April. It’s a community news project run by donations and ads. The founder is a local man, Branden Andersen, with a background in journalism. He provides a weekly (soon, biweekly) newsletter that focuses on informing the public about events, using a calendar and short articles. Newsberg offers feature stories about business, arts, and culture, and Andersen is considering adding school-related events and features.
  • A Family Place: This nonprofit organization is offering several free parenting groups, and they are all starting or have started this August. Sign up on their website.
  • SMART Reading: Families and teachers who are interested in literacy may wish to participate in SMART, which provides children with one-on-one reading time and access to books. To volunteer and learn about programs, email [email protected] or call the Salem office, which serves counties including Yamhill, at 503-391-8423.
  • Chehalem Cultural Center: Applications for the Yamhill County Student Artist Showcase are due Sept. 4. The event is for Yamhill County-based artists in Grades 1 to 12. In addition, Classes for youths, teens, and adults went on sale on Wednesday, Aug. 16. CCC provides scholarships to anyone for all its programs, from concerts to classes: For a scholarship, email [email protected] and share what activity you need a scholarship for and what it would mean to you to receive it. Space can also be rented at a discounted price, a great opportunity for the whole community. Email [email protected].
  • Newberg Public Library: Does your child need homework help? The library devotes a whole web page to homework resources. Also, parents who are staff, note that teachers can get a library card for their classroom resources if they teach in the Newberg-Dundee Public Schools. Bring your school ID to the library to get started. 
  • Support Tiger Manufacturing: Join the community for a Garage Sale on Saturday, Aug 19 to benefit Tiger Manufacturing, a fully functional, student-run machine shop at Newberg High School! The sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at A.R.E. Manufacturing Inc., located at 518 S. Springbrook Road, Newberg. Want to know more about Tiger Manufacturing first? Well, students machine real parts, for real customers for real paychecks. Students are educated in the industry while efficiently and effectively manufacturing high-quality machined components. These aren't future workers but young people working now in a professional business environment.
