2016 Language Arts Adoption

Newberg School District Board of Directors adopted language arts curriculum materials on April 12, 2016 for grades K-8 and high school English language students.

Materials

Elementary: Amplify – CKLA and Guided Reading & Accountable Independent Reading for school and classroom libraries

Middle School:  Open Educational Resources and Guided Reading & Accountable Independent Reading for school and classroom libraries

High School: No recommendation at this time

English Language Learners:  K-5 EL Achieve Systematic ELD Instructional Units and English 3D for grades 6-12

Digital Conversion (hardware, apps, services)

Digital devices for each K-5 student, including iPads for K-2 students and Chromebooks for grades 3-5.

Middle school students will have individual Chromebooks to use in Language arts classrooms; Students in AVID and ELL programs will also have 1-to-1 Chromebooks

High School Students in AVID and ELL programs will also have 1-to-1 Chromebooks  

System-wide use of Google Apps and other digital tools.

Professional Learning

This is a two-year implementation K-12 

 Includes four full days for professional learning and be supported by instructional coaches and school professional development resources

Teachers in the Edwards Dual Language program and District English Language proficiency programs will continue to use professional learning community planning time as well as access instructional coaches and school professional development resources
